Huckabee: Give Money To Vets, Not The United Nations

Military veterans should get the money that the United States provides to support the United Nations, Mike Huckabee suggested Wednesday night.

According to Newsmax, the former Arkansas governor and Republican presidential candidate made the proposal Wednesday night on Fox News’ “The O’Reilly Factor.” He declared: “We should eliminate (payments to the U.N.). We ought to take that money...and make it available to veterans who have served under the U.S. flag (as) benefits they need.”

Huckabee claimed that the United States is “getting zero benefits” from its membership in the international alliance, adding: “We are getting embarrassed by the actions of the U.N. That’s money that ought to be spent on American servicemen and servicewomen, and I hope Donald Trump makes it one of the first acts of his presidency.”

The U.N. receives about $3 billion annually from the United States. Newsmax cited a report by the conservative Washington Free Beacon that Republican congressional leaders plan to end the funding. The lawmakers are upset about the U.N. Security Council’s recent condemnation of Israel’s settlements in disputed Middle East territories. The United States could have vetoed the condemnation resolution, but instead allowed it to pass by abstaining from the 14-0 vote.
