Hillary Claims She'll Give Weinstein Donations To Charity

Hillary Clinton never seems to be at a loss for words, but the cat seemed to have gotten a hold of her tongue as the Harvey Weinstein scandal broke out. The disgraced Hollywood exec has major ties to the Democratic Party through donations and fundraising efforts, and many leading Democrats quickly spoke out about the repulsive allegations surrounding him.

Absent among those voices was Clinton, who took six days to say anything about it.

As the Daily Mail shares, she’s apparently back to not being at a loss for words. After releasing a statement condemning Weinstein’s alleged behavior, Clinton appeared on CNN to offer up some more detailed perspective on things.

Many Democrats have pledged to return any ‘dirty’ money associated with Weinstein, and a question was posed to Clinton as to whether she intended to do the same.

“There's no one to give it back to. What other people are saying, what my former colleagues are saying, is that they're going to donate it to charity, and of course I will do that,” she said.

“I give 10 per cent of my income to charity every year, this will be part of that. There's no doubt about it.”

As for the scandal itself, Clinton suddenly had a mouthful to say now that the cameras were in her face.

“I was appalled. It was something that was just intolerable in every way. And, you know, like so many people who've come forward and spoken out, this was a different side of a person who I and many others had known in the past,” Clinton continued.

“People in Democratic politics for a couple of decades appreciated his help and support. And people who never spoke out before having the courage to speak out, just clearly demonstrates that this behavior that he engaged in, cannot be tolerated and cannot be overlooked.”

To be clear, this is not a partisan issue. Weinstein has been accused of some absolutely abhorrent behavior, and which end of the political spectrum he lands on is irrelevant to the damage he may have caused.

However, the fact that he has been pumping money into Democratic coffers for some time points to him being rather influential - to say the least - in party politics, so it’s important to see who speaks out and who doesn’t.

As with any scandal, the questions automatically become ‘who knew what and when.’ That’s been happening a lot in regards to the Weinstein scandal, and we’ll have to wait and see how it all plays out.

An alarming number of women have already spoken out about being victimized at his hands, and there’s no telling if there will be even more to come.

While it’s hard to see a bright side in any of this, perhaps the breaking of this scandal will lead to any other improper behavior in the entertainment business to be weeded out.

There have been a number of different examples of the ‘wink wink’ fashion in which Weinstein was looked at by those in the know, and it’s high time for this winks to permanently go away.

As they say, sunlight is always the best disinfectant.
