High School Football Player Fed Up With National Anthem Protests, So He Does This

When a high school football player from Mechanicville High School noticed there wasn’t an American flag present during the National Anthem during a game at Catholic High School, he took action.

“All the stuff that’s happening now with the flag and stuff so I didn’t know if it was like that or where it was,” Red Raider football player Daniel Hayner told News10 ABC.

His team always carries the flag, so walked into the middle of the football field to wave a flag made by a local parent who is a veteran. A photo of the act was posted on social media where hundreds of people liked and shared it.

“It was just a spontaneous action from a boy from a small town that just had basically a notion that when you come from a community like this and the things that we try to instill upon them that there’s family, there’s the community and our nation, and our country and that really means a lot to him,” said Mechanical High School Athletic director Robert Young.

The school says that the absence of a flag was not intentional.

“The school did not have a flag prepared in a timely manner. As a principal, I take responsibility for that and we apologize if anyone was offended,” Catholic High School’s principal said.
