Graham Fears GOP Is ‘Breaking Apart’ Because Of Trump

Republicans could leave the party in ruins if they award their presidential nomination to Donald Trump, according to South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham.

Newsmax reported that the GOP lawmaker issued the warning Sunday during an interview on “The Cats Roundtable” radio program. He recently announced his reluctant endorsement of Trump’s top rival, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, in an effort to derail the billionaire real-estate tycoon’s campaign.

“I’m supporting Cruz because I think he is a reliable conservative,” Graham told show host John Catsimatidis. “I think the election will be much more competitive with Ted Cruz. The people of New York voted overwhelmingly for Donald Trump in the Republican primary. I respect that. I have never been more worried about the Republican Party breaking apart than I am today.”

Graham acknowledged that Trump’s success proves GOP voters are weary of “big government liberalism.” He explained: “What we have to do as Republicans is offer an alternative that’s common sense, that people can understand, that’s hopeful and optimistic; not hateful. I pray the Republican Party can nominate somebody that can beat Hillary Clinton.”

National polls of likely voters indicate that Clinton would defeat Trump or Cruz if the election were held today. She leads Trump by the widest margin.
