Governor Defiantly Tells Obama: ‘Come & Take’ Our Guns

President Obama’s plan to issue executive orders regarding gun control is getting a chilly reception in Texas, according to the Daily Mail.

Greg Abbott, the Lone Star State’s Republican governor, criticized the administration’s anticipated action requiring background checks of people seeking to buy firearms at gun shows and online. He tweeted: “Obama wants to impose more gun control. My response? COME & TAKE IT.”

During his weekly radio address, the president explained that his goal is to prevent “a dangerous few” from purchasing weapons. The order he is expected to announce would extend the federal background-check system that currently applies only to transactions at gun shops. He also may call for a ban on firearms sales to those whom federal authorities have placed on the terrorism-watch and no-fly lists.

Donald Trump, the front-running contender for the Republican presidential nomination, promised the crowd at a campaign rally in Mississippi on Saturday that he will reverse the executive orders if he wins this year’s election. “He can’t do that. I will veto that. I will unsign that so fast, so fast,” the billionaire real-estate tycoon pledged.

The Daily Mail reported that Obama met with Attorney General Loretta Lynch on Monday to iron out the details of the orders. They want to ensure that the actions do not exceed the president’s authority, as alleged by many gun-rights advocates.
