GOP Pundit: Trump Jr. "Was Dropped On His Head As A Child!"

Ana Navarro, one of Donald Trump’s fiercest Republican critics, used some colorful language Monday night in ridiculing the president’s eldest son.

“When I read (Donald Trump Jr.’s) statement where he was admitting that he had met with this Russian lawyer for the purpose of receiving information against Hillary Clinton, I thought, ‘My God, this kid was dropped on his head as a child!” the CNN commentator declared, according to The Hill. She was referring to Trump Jr.’s decision to publicly release an email chain showing he arranged to sit down with the lawyer in June 2016. U.S. intelligence officials believe the woman is a Kremlin operative.

“How could he possibly be admitting this?” Navarro asked. “Because he knew there was an email out there. The sheer amount of contacts and meetings that none of them remember between Trump World and Russians involved with the Kremlin is astounding. This stinks to holy hell! And it’s time that Republicans stop thinking narrowly, and start thinking broadly about defending the American democracy and the integrity of our elections. This is the most important issue facing us.”

The president’s son is just the latest Trump associate to face scrutiny for Russian connections. Multiple Trump campaign operatives met with Kremlin officials during and after the presidential race. Former campaign manager Paul Manafort and former national security adviser Michael Flynn were forced to step down because of their ties to Russia.

Navarro got into a Twitter debate with Trump Jr. on Saturday. “Given choice b/w Pres. Donald or Pres. Ivanka, I'd take her. After all, she's smart and eloquent and knows how to make champagne popsicles,” wrote the political analyst, who supported former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush early in the 2016 presidential race. Trump Jr. fired back: “She is VERY smart & eloquent. You can belittle her all you want w your snark, but we all know 1 on 1 she way out of your league.” Navarro replied: “Oh, no! I got under Little Boy Trump's thin skin. Not his fault. It's a hereditary condition.” That prompted Trump Jr. to tweet: “I love being attacked by pundits who somehow make a living in politics but haven't been right about anything in 2 years. So out of touch!”

The Washington Post suggested that news of Trump Jr.’s controversial meeting with the Russian lawyer has put more pressure on an administration already reeling from charges of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia to interfere in last year’s election. “The president fumes against his enemies and senior aides circle one another with suspicion, according to top White House officials and outside advisers,” the Post reported.

The growing Russian scandal is complicating White House efforts to pass Republican Obamacare-replacement legislation and other bills. Members of the senior staff, distracted by the collusion allegations, have been hiring private lawyers. Congress and Justice Department special counsel Robert Mueller are conducting investigations.

The morning after Trump Jr.’s interview on Fox News, the president tweeted: “My son Donald did a good job last night. He was open, transparent and innocent. This is the greatest Witch Hunt in political history. Sad!”
