GOP Candidates Debate Whether to Kill Innocent People

Much of the rhetoric during the Republican presidential debate Tuesday night featured candidates claiming to be tougher than one another in the fight against terrorism.

Many of the White House hopefuls pledged to destroy ISIS by launching more missile strikes and deploying additional ground troops to Syria and Iraq. The Huffington Post pointed out that the war-mongering became so intense, the candidates even discussed Donald Trump’s controversial proposal to kill the family members of suspected terrorists.

“We have to be much tougher,” the front-running billionaire said. “We have to be much stronger than we’ve been. We have people that know what is going on. … I would be very, very firm with families. And frankly, that will make people think, because they may not care much about their lives, but they do care, believe it or not, about their families’ lives.”

Retired brain surgeon Ben Carson seemed to agree, commenting: “You have to be able to look at the big picture and understand that it’s actually merciful if you go ahead and finish the job, rather than death by a thousand pricks.”

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush challenged Trump, declaring: “This is another example of the lack of seriousness. This is troubling because we’re at war. … The idea that that is a solution to this is just, is just crazy.”

Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul added: “If you are going to kill the families of terrorists, realize there is something called the Geneva Convention that we would have to pull out of. It would defy every norm.”
