Giuliani Under Fire For His Links to Arab Country

Rudy Giuliani will have a conflict of interest as a member of the Trump administration because his consulting company did business in Qatar, The Huffington Post alleged this week.

Eight years ago, when the former New York City mayor was seeking the Republican presidential nomination, he did not reveal that one of Giuliani Partners’ clients was the government of Qatar. The firm provided “security advice” and helped the Arab nation try to buy real estate in New York City, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Newsweek reported that former CIA official Bob Baer called “the contract between Giuliani Security, a division of Giuliani Partners, and Qatar … a huge conflict of interest.” Though the ex-mayor supposedly resigned from the consulting firm in 2007, he continues to serve as its chairman and CEO, according to Foreign Policy Magazine.

HuffPost accused Giuliani of hypocrisy for criticizing Hillary Clinton’s links to Qatar. During the presidential race, he pointed out that the country’s government gave money to the Clinton foundation. He claimed Qatar’s reputation for discriminating against women, denying LGBT rights and sponsoring terrorism contradicted the Democratic nominee’s issue positions.

Giuliani, an adviser to Trump and one of the candidate’s top surrogates on the campaign trail, said this week that he would like to get Clinton’s old job as secretary of state. The former mayor, whose qualifications include a stint as a federal prosecutor, also is reportedly one of the people the president-elect is considering for attorney general.
