Gingrich Worried Trump’s Team Will ‘Give In To The Left’

Though his party has seized control of the White House, Newt Gingrich is concerned that members of Donald Trump’s administration will “lose their nerve” when Democrats try to stop their agenda.

“Look, they’re going to arrive in Washington, and for them to be successful they have to stake out positions that (the Democratic National Committee) will not like and the left will hate,” the former speaker of the House said Sunday on ABC News’ “This Week.” He explained: “I’m worried that when they realize how big the problem is, that they decide that they’re just going to do the best they can and give in.”

Gingrich cited as his “deepest concern” the fierce opposition that the new president and his top officials are sure to face. “You’re going to have the greens going crazy” about the policies of Trump’s Environmental Protection Agency and Department of the Interior, according to the Georgia Republican.

He added: “You’re going to have the government employees going crazy about civil-service reform. You’re going to have the teachers union going crazy over school choice. And these are pretty non-negotiable. I mean, if you’re serious about school choice, there is no agreement with the teachers union.”

Gingrich claimed that Trump, despite having lost the popular vote to Hillary Clinton, has a “mandate” to enact his campaign promises.
