Gingrich Says Hillary Clinton Is ‘Beginning to Fall Apart’

Hillary Clinton’s recent criticism of voters who support Donald Trump shows that her presidential campaign is struggling, according to Newt Gingrich.

The Hill reported that the former Republican speaker of the House declared on “Fox News Sunday” that the Democratic nominee “is beginning to fall apart.” He was responding to Clinton’s remark that half of Trump’s fans are “deplorables” because of their association with extreme right-wing ideologies.

“She just made a statement in which she lumped together millions of Americans,” Gingrich said. On Saturday, Clinton attempted to walk back her controversial charge by acknowledging that it was “grossy generalistic.” Trump predicted that the comment will prove to be the biggest blunder by a presidential candidate this year.

On the same episode of “Fox News Sunday,” Democratic Rep. Xavier Becerra of California rose to Clinton’s defense. He argued that she admits her mistakes, unlike the unapologetic Trump. “It’s clear there’s at least one candidate in this race who’s willing to say ‘I regret a remark I made,’” Becerra said.

The congressman was among those whom Clinton considered to become her vice-presidential running mate. Gingrich served as House speaker in the 1990s, during Bill Clinton’s presidential administration.
