Gingrich Outraged At ‘Unbelievable Charges’ Against Obama, Clinton

Newt Gingrich declared this week that two recent reports critical of the Obama administration and Hillary Clinton “indicate levels of corruption and dishonesty on a scale that I can’t remember in American history.”

The former speaker of the House was reacting to the revelation that then-FBI Director James Comey wrote a document clearing Hillary Clinton of criminal charges before the bureau had even questioned her regarding the private email server she used as secretary of state.

The other recent report suggested that Russian operatives engaged in bribery, kickbacks, extortion and money laundering to expand their nuclear-energy holdings. While Obama was president and Clinton was heading the State Department, the government approved the sale of controlling interest in a Canadian firm to a Russian country. The firm reportedly owned facilities in several U.S. states featuring 20 percent of the country’s uranium-production capacity. It did not control 20 percent of U.S. uranium supplies, as Trump and others have alleged. Russia’s nuclear agency cleared the way for the Clinton Foundation to receive millions of dollars, according to the report.

“These are unbelievable charges if this is true,” Gingrich told Fox News host Sean Hannity. “No wonder they didn’t put (Clinton) under oath. The whole thing was rigged. I think the average American is going to demand that the House and Senate hold full-blown, clear, public hearings; put this stuff on the record.”

The former Georgia congressman, who led the House of Representatives during Bill Clinton’s presidency in the 1990s, is among many Republicans who have criticized Comey for not advising the Justice Department to prosecute Clinton. They argue that she endangered national security by allowing classified government information to be sent and received on the private server at her New York home. Clinton’s critics also accuse her of doing favors as secretary of state for foreign governments and companies that made donations to her family’s foundation.

Many Democrats also were not happy with the way Comey conducted the email investigation. Though the FBI director cleared Clinton of criminal charges, he scolded her for having been “extremely careless” with top-secret documents. Less than two weeks before the 2016 election, Comey announced that he had re-opened the email probe.

Gingrich, who served as an adviser and campaign surrogate for Trump’s presidential bid last year, continues to support the president while some Republicans are abandoning him. The ex-speaker, a Fox News contributor, frequently defends Trump during his appearances on the television network. One of the ways the president has rewarded Gingrich is by nominating his wife, Callista Gingrich, to be the U.S. ambassador to the Vatican. The Washington Examiner reported that the Senate confirmed the nomination on Monday.

“I’m so proud of Callista and we’re, frankly, grateful to the president for nominating her to be the ambassador to the Vatican,” Gingrich said, referring to his third wife. He reported that she was “very excited by the opportunity” and “realizes how big a challenge it’s going to be.” He explained: “If you are the communications bridge between Pope Francis and President Trump, you’re going to have a really big job and she knows she’s going to have to work hard.”
