Gingrich: DOJ Full Of 'Liberal Lawyers', Comey Is 'Amazingly Political'

Newt Gingrich, a former Republican speaker of the House, is accusing FBI Director James Comey of bias against President Trump.

According to Fox News, Gingrich claimed Comey was “amazingly political” in his testimony to the House Intelligence Committee on Monday. “He can explain anything which sounds like a soundbite that would hurt Donald Trump. Anything which would reflect on the Obama administration’s leaking, the Obama administration’s ability to break the law, he can’t comment on at all,” the ex-congressman from Georgia declared.

Gingrich, claiming that 97 percent of last year’s presidential campaign contributions from within the Justice Department benefitted Hillary Clinton, remarked that “the place is filled with liberal lawyers who are very eager to destroy the Trump administration.” He concurred with Laura Ingraham, who recently said the left “wants to destroy Trump” and that the administration should craft “a much more aggressive legal strategy.”

Gingrich noted Republican Rep. Trey Gowdy of South Carolina asked Comey about the government leak that resulted in the resignation of former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, who had phone conversations with a Russian ambassador before Trump took office. The FBI chief would not say whether the bureau was investigating the leak.

However, Comey did disclose that agents are looking into possible “coordination” between the Trump campaign and Russian operatives who tried to interfere with last year’s election. Gingrich surmised that the leaks which doomed Flynn “could only have come from the Obama administration.”

Flynn is just one of many Trump associates who have links to Russia. Former campaign manager Paul Manafort resigned last year due to the controversy of his past work as a consultant to a pro-Vladimir Putin official in Ukraine. Attorney General Jeff Sessions has admitted he had conversations with the Russian ambassador to the United States last year while advising the Trump campaign.

Many Republicans, as well as Democrats, support a federal probe of the Russian connections. Comey noted that Putin was strongly opposed to Clinton’s candidacy because he believes she interfered with Russian elections while she was secretary of state.
