Gingrich: ‘People Don’t Believe’ Hillary Clinton

Newt Gingrich, noting that polls indicate a majority of voters have an unfavorable view of Hillary Clinton, on Sunday accused the Democratic presidential front-runner of failing to “build a base that works.”

“I think younger, reform-oriented Democrats either won’t vote or they’ll vote for Trump, and that poses a huge problem for Hillary,” the former House speaker declared on Fox News. “People don’t believe her. That’s actually getting worse, not better.”

The fight between the Democratic establishment and the party’s progressives has erupted into a “real civil war,” according to Gingrich. “Everyone said the Republicans were going to have a problem, but instead it’s the Democrats who are having problems,” he explained. “Bernie Sanders just endorsed the primary opponent of the Democratic National Committee chair. Sanders is committed to going all the way to the convention in a really bitter fight.”

Gingrich was referring to Sanders’ announcement that he is supporting a liberal challenger to DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, a Clinton backer who has come under fire from the Vermont senator’s supporters for allegedly rigging the nominating process in favor of the former secretary of state. On Saturday, Sanders pledged to replace the Florida congresswoman as the Democratic leader if he wins his White House bid.
