Frat Boys Accused of Spitting on Veteran and Desecrating U.S. Flag

A group of college fraternity members allegedly urinated on a U.S. flag, and spit on a wounded military veteran and his service dog, according to Fox News.

Investigators are searching for details about the incident, which reportedly took place April 17 in Panama City Beach, Fla. Witnesses said Zeta Beta Tau members from the University of Florida and Emory University were involved.

More than 100 combat-injured veterans were attending a charity event at the same resort where the fraternity members were staying, Linda Cope, founder of the Warrior Beach Retreat, told Fox News.

She accused the students of treating the former service members “like the Vietnam veterans were treated.” The frat boys made rude remarks about the veterans’ spouses, threw things off balconies and desecrated the flag, according to Cope.

Veteran Nicholas Connole told television station WJHG: “They actually spit on me and my service dog as well, and that’s just so disrespectful and it hurts.” Fox News cited other reports of students throwing beer on veterans and tearing the U.S. flag from the ground.

“This happened because of two fraternities causing heartache for these warriors, and that should never have happened,” Cope said. “Shame on them. There was no excuse.”
