Former FBI Director James Comey's Father Has Some Harsh Words For Trump
Former FBI Director James Comey's father is jumping into the fray to defend his son, and he has some harsh criticism for President Donald Trump. He's not happy about the way this new president is shaping up, and isn't shy about saying so.
Like everyone else in the world, J. Brien Comey found out his son, FBI Director James Comey, was fired from reading a newspaper. The elder Comey claims that he and his son avoid talking about the job or politics in an effort to keep things quiet.
“It’s just a father-son relationship. We never talk about what he does. I read it in the papers,” said Mr. Comey.
James Comey might not have much to say about the latest developments, but his father said a mouthful to New York Daily News. Brien Comey, a lifelong Republican, says he never cared for Donald Trump at all.
"I was never crazy about Trump," he explained. "I’m convinced that he’s nuts. I thought he belonged in an institution."
"He was crazy before he became president. Now he’s really crazy," Comey added.
CNN reports that Mr. Comey believes that President Trump was 'scared to death' of the former FBI director.
"[Comey] didn't give him 100 percent loyalty, and he demands that of people who work with him," J. Brien Comey explained, according to CNN. "[Comey] said he would give 100 percent honesty, but not loyalty... Why he was fired, I think, is Trump changes every day... He had three reasons three days in a row."
According to the elder Comey, the younger Comey is doing well. "He's doing fine. He's a solid citizen, he has lots of opportunity," said the former director's father. "It was a dumb thing to get rid of him. A loss for the FBI."
Comey enraged Democrats when he re-opened the investigation into former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's email scandal just days before the election. Many believe Comey's move, despite the fact that he exonerated her just before the election, is what caused her to lose.
Trump praised Comey for reopening the investigation but criticized him for refusing to prosecute. The official White House word on why Comey was fired was that it was due to the recommendation of the attorney general and deputy attorney general. Trump later noted that 'the FBI has been in turmoil' under Comey.
