Fiorina Pledges to Oppose Any Obama Trade Deal

Carly Fiorina, the former Hewlett-Packard CEO who is running for the Republican presidential nomination, suggested Sunday that President Obama cannot be trusted to negotiate international trade agreements.

Referring to the proposed Trans-Pacific Partnership, she called on Obama to “talk to us about it, what’s in it and why it’s good for America,” the Wall Street Journal and The Hill reported.

“Unfortunately, the president has demonstrated his ability to talk at a very high level about goals we can all agree on, and then it turns out that the devil that is in the details is so different from those goals,” Fiorina said on “The Cats Roundtable” radio show.

She alleged that Obama “has burned bridges of trust with the American people.” She told program host John Catsimatidis that she will oppose any deal the administration reaches with the 11 other countries involved in the TPP.

“It is a complicated, multi-party agreement that has been negotiated in secret over years. We don’t really know what’s in it. The president hasn’t told us, and neither have the Republicans and Democrats who are pushing it,” Fiorina said.

Opposing Views noted that the candidate called herself “a big believer in free and fair trade, but … we have trading partners like China (that) violate trade agreements all the time.”
