FBI Recommends No Criminal Charges For Clinton Emails

FBI investigators have concluded that Hillary Clinton should not face criminal prosecution for her use of a private email server as secretary of state, CNBC reported.

The agency’s director, James Comey, told reporters Tuesday morning: “Although the Department of Justice makes final decisions on matters like this, we are expressing to Justice our view that no charges are appropriate in this case. … Our judgment is that no reasonable prosecutor would bring such a case.”

Though Comey admitted there is no proof Clinton or her staff intentionally broke any law, he said they were “extremely careless” in their email practices. He revealed that 110 messages in 52 email chains contained classified government information, which may have allowed terrorists to gain access to the information.

The director, who was the assistant U.S. attorney general in the administration of Republican President George W. Bush, stressed that “this investigation was done honestly, competently and independently.” He explained: “No outside influence of any kind was brought to bear. I know there were many opinions expressed by people who were not part of the investigation — including people in government — but none of that mattered to us. Opinions are irrelevant, and they were all uninformed by insight into our investigation because we did our investigation the right way.”
