Father Of Deceased Decorated Soldier Cancels Toronto Trip, Travel Privileges Are Being 'Reviewed'

Khizr Khan entered the national consciousness in a big way last summer after a memorable appearance at the Democratic National Convention. As Raw Story shares, he’s back in the news cycle again, and this time it’s for a pretty curious reason.

Khan’s son, US Army Capt. Humayun S.M. Khan, lost his life back in 2004 while defending his country in Iraq. The proud dad stood up on stage at the DNC and proceeded to tear into then-candidate Donald Trump over potential immigration policies that would be a part of his presidency. Fast forward to today, and Trump is, in fact, president. His proposed immigration policies remain a work in progress, but Khan claims he’s already being impacted as his travel privileges are now ‘under review.’

“This turn of events is not just concerning to me, but to all my fellow Americans who cherish our freedom to travel abroad. I have not been given any reason as to why,” Khan said.

That led Khan to cancel a scheduled appearance at an event in Canada, citing the review as the reason why. There has been no confirmation of the fact that his privileges are currently being reviewed, or why they would be subject to it, but US Customs and Border Protection did offer up a brief statement.

“US Customs & Border Protection does not contact travelers in advance of their travel out of the United States. With respect to Global Entry or trusted traveler membership, CBP’s engagement is about the status of membership in the program, not any particular travel itself. Of course, any US citizen with a passport may travel without trusted traveler status,” the statement reads in part.

We’ll have to wait and see how this bizarre tale plays out, but if Khan’s claims are validated, you can be certain his dance card will be even fuller. If by chance they are not validated, he will fade away into wallflower status and the legend of his powerful speech will lose a bit of luster.
