Fallon Thinks Trump Channels Elle Woods During His Liberty University Address

Leave it to ‘Tonight Show’ host Jimmy Fallon to find something so incredibly odd that it just may be true. This wasn’t some random fact or viral story either, but rather a strange coincidence that he brought to light about President Donald Trump’s recent commencement speech at Liberty University. As Raw Story shares, the address will look awfully familiar to fans of a particular 2001 romantic comedy.

Trump delivered the speech over the weekend, and it was generally well-received. However, something was sticking out in Fallon’s mind about it. He was finally able to put his finger on what it was.

“I watched Trump’s commencement speech, and it sounded kind of familiar,” Fallon said.

He would proceed to share his findings with the audience. A mash-up video of Trump’s speech and the one that Reese Witherspoon memorably delivered in the film ‘Legally Blonde’ was played, and as you’ll see, Fallon is pretty spot on with his take. Trump and Witherspoon use similar phrases, and they even seem to hit remarkably similar inflection points during their delivery.

As you’ll see in the video, they even wrap up their respective speeches in a similar fashion.

“We did it,” Witherspoon says at the end of her speech.

“I did it,” said Trump.

Fallon was pretty taken aback by his discovery, as you can see from how the segment ended.

“What is going on?! It’s probably just a coincidence,” he said.

That was a subtle jab at another controversy that was making the rounds about a speech delivered by a member of the Trump family. Back at the Republican National Convention over the summer, Melania Trump delivered a rousing speech that was also well-received. However, there was a slight problem revealed once observers had a chance to soak things in.

Her speech was remarkably similar to one that Michelle Obama had delivered at the 2008 Democratic National Convention. That little row led to a ton of red faces among the speechwriters, and it looks like the crew that composed the president’s commencement speech may have missed the memo on taking extra care to insure it didn’t happen again.

Since the president has enough on his plate these days, we’ll assume this one will blow over pretty quickly - but further examples that his speechwriters are lacking in the creativity department will raise some red flags.
