Ex-CIA Official Slams Flynn For False Tweets

Michael Flynn, Donald Trump’s recently appointed national security adviser, continues to come under fire for his use of Twitter as well as his son’s apparent habit of spreading fake news reports.

“I’m watching a clown show!” Phil Mudd, a former CIA official and counter-terrorism expert who is a CNN analyst, exclaimed Tuesday on the television network’s “The Situation Room,” according to The Huffington Post. “I’ve had it with this. I want to see a transition from a campaign to reality, and I don’t see it yet.”

Mudd suggested that Flynn, a retired Army lieutenant general, does not deserve to hold the same position as the “remarkable servants” who have served previous Republican administrations. He told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer: “We transition now to a national security adviser in a political realm who argues that an opponent on the stump should be locked up in prison and who argues that a billion-plus Muslims should be grouped together, and then we go on to argue that that individual’s son, who retweets fake news, should be given access to top secrets.”

Mudd was referring to Michael Flynn Jr., a former member of Donald Trump’s presidential transition team, who reportedly has posted information about conspiracy theories. One of his retweets featured an untrue story about the Washington pizza restaurant that a gunman attacked on Sunday. Police said the post inspired the assailant.

The elder Flynn also has circulated fake news and discredited conspiracy theories, according to Politico. The news site uncovered 16 such tweets from the retired general since early August.
