ESPN Comes Under Fire After Journalist Makes Shocking Comment About Trump

In year’s past, network personalities would keep their political leanings relatively close to the vest. They certainly wouldn’t cross the line and post inflammatory rhetoric to get their point across. Who would want to alienate at least half of their potential audience, after all? Alas, that line of thinking has gone by the wayside in the Trump era, which is one in which many folks feel that the world is simply waiting with bated breath to hear their political opinions. We have our latest example of that, courtesy of an ESPN anchor.

As the New York Daily News shares, Jemele Hill, one the many SportsCenter anchors on the network’s roster, felt the need to get political on social media. Folks responded. Hill kept going. And going. And going. And...you get the point.

"Donald Trump is a white supremacist who has largely surrounded himself w/ other white supremacists," read one post.

“The height of white privilege is being able to ignore his white supremacy, because it's of no threat to you. Well, it's a threat to me,” read another.

Alright, so Hill’s no fan of Trump. Got it. She buys into the wild alt-Left conspiracy theory that he’s a white supremacist. Got it. Now that she has that off of her chest, we can all move along, right? Nope, cause she wasn’t done.

“Trump is the most ignorant, offensive president of my lifetime. His rise is a direct result of white supremacy. Period,” she wrote.

“He is unqualified and unfit to be president. He is not a leader. And if he were not white, he never would have been elected,” read another of her thoughts.

As you can imagine, Hill’s comments exploded. It was quite remarkable to see one of the faces of an incredibly large cable network go off in such a fashion on social media. Being that ESPN is not in the politics business, her meltdown was all the more curious and off putting. Surely, the powers that be have some disciplinary actions in mind for one of their star anchors, right? Not quite.

“The comments on Twitter from Jemele Hill regarding the President do not represent the position of ESPN,” the network said in a statement. “We have addressed this with Jemele and she recognizes her actions were inappropriate.”

They’ve addressed it? One of your most visible faces has just made a complete spectacle of themselves on social media, ticked off scores of people, and became incredibly argumentative all in the span of one Twitter meltdown, and you’ve addressed it? Exactly how is she discouraged from doing such a thing again? How do you expect viewers to ever be able to look at her the same way again?

This is just the latest sign that the former worldwide leader in sports is on a frightening downward trajectory. Network programming has become incredibly tainted with a liberal bias, and scores of viewers are tuning out as a result. We’ll fashion a guess that Hill’s tirade will cause the same to happen for her turn at the desk on SportsCenter.
