Eric Trump: Washington Way More Corrupt Than Americans Think

Eric Trump indicated Monday night that he thinks dishonesty and fraud are running rampant in the nation’s capital.

“Do I think Washington is a lot more corrupt than most Americans think? Absolutely. No question about it,” the president’s second-eldest son told Fox News host Sean Hannity. “We gave uranium, the material we use to make nuclear weapons, to Russia. To Russia. I mean, think about that. And nothing gets done about it.”

The Hill noted that President Trump also has slammed the alleged uranium transfer. However, PolitiFact found no evidence to support the claim, which apparently stems from a 2010 agreement in which the State Department let the Russian nuclear-energy program buy into a Canadian uranium firm. About 20 percent of the company’s mines are in the United States.

Eric Trump also complained about the “harping on one email that is total nonsense.” He was referring to emails recently released by another son of the president, Donald Trump Jr., who admitted he exchanged messages with a New York City agent who arranged a meeting for him with a Russian government lawyer who claimed to have incriminating information about Hillary Clinton. The meeting took place during last year’s White House race.

Trump Jr. claimed the lawyer did not turn over anything the Trump campaign could use against the Democratic presidential nominee. However, Democrats and other critics of the administration argued that the meeting was evidence of collusion between Trump operatives and Russian officials to interfere in the election. Justice Department special counsel Robert Mueller is investigating whether there was a conspiracy.

Eric Trump made the case that another example of wrongdoing in Washington, D.C. was Saudi Arabia’s contribution to the Clinton family’s charitable foundation. “It makes no sense. It really actually speaks to the corruption in the city,” he said.

In other news about Eric Trump, Metro US reported Monday that his net worth is about $150 million. The news outlet cited Celebrity Net Worth as its source. Most of the money has come from the presidential son’s role as executive vice president of The Trump Organization. Eric Trump was in charge of the firm’s purchase of Virginia’s Kluge Winery, and has some responsibilities concerning the Trumps’ worldwide network of golf clubs and hotels.

Celebrity Net Worth described Eric Trump as a “highly active philanthropist,” having created a charitable foundation in his name that helps fund the Saint Jude Children’s Hospital. Trump sits on the hospital’s board of directors. The foundation has raised more than $25 million, mostly from an annual golf tournament, for the facility. Forbes criticized the charity, alleging that the event’s expenses “defy any reasonable cost justification for a one-day golf tournament.”

The Donald J. Trump Foundation “used the Eric Trump Foundation to funnel $100,000 in donations into revenue for the Trump Organization,” a Forbes article stated. “While donors to the Eric Trump Foundation were told their money was going to help sick kids, more than $500,000 was re-donated to other charities, many of which were connected to Trump family members or interests, including at least four groups that subsequently paid to hold golf tournaments at Trump courses.”
