Embarrassing Gaffe - Trump Administration Sends New Citizen Welcome Letter Signed By Obama

When a new presidential team enters the White House, all sorts of things need to be changed. No matter how well organized the transition is, some things will get missed. Those things will then need to be changed on the fly. Failure to do so will lead to problems down the road, not the least of which is some seriously red faces.

As Yahoo shares, the Trump administration is becoming familiar with that concept right about now. Aisha Sultan is a columnist for STLtoday, and she was looking forward to her British husband’s pending citizenship. The couple was particularly excited when they received a welcome letter from the White House, but they had to a do a double take to confirm it was the real deal. Sultan would quickly share her findings with the world.

“My British-born husband takes his oath of citizenship today. In the packet for new Americans, the welcome letter from POTUS is from Obama,” she wrote.

Basically, the form letter that the White House is using is the same one that was being used during the Obama administration. That’s all fine, well and good, but it sure would be swell to have the signature field changed to reflect the current commander-in-chief. Users on social media were pretty amused by the whole thing.

“omg they haven't updated that yet?” shared one user.

Apparently not. If we can rewind to the changing things on the fly theory for a moment, this is a perfect example of that. The first time this form letter was used, the signature field should have been changed. Taking a leap and assuming that it wasn’t, this is something that should easily be caught during the proofreading stage of the final check of the welcome packet.

“Congrats Aisha. My UK-born husband became a citizen under Obama, and looking back, we took it for granted,” added another user.

While this can easily be looked at as a small oversight by an administration that has a ton of other things to tend to, it’s not as simple as that. A mistake such as this points to an overall level of sloppiness and carelessness, and whichever department is responsible for this has some explaining to do. While that may seem harsh, it would be no different at any other business that had to explain away such an egregious error.

“Actually I hope they keep it that way, the only welcome letter that matters: it's the one I received when I became citizen. Respect, O!” chimed in another user.

For an administration that receives so much criticism on a daily basis, there should be a serious sense that all ducks need to be in a row. If members of the White House staff do just that, the daily criticisms will be exposed as nit picks and agenda-driven nonsense before too long. They didn’t in this case, so that opens up questions about other things that may have been missed along the way.

We’ll go out on a limb and assume all form letters will be given a once over from here on out.

Sultan shared the letter on Twitter.

Users were amused, to say the least.
