Electoral College Has The Power To Reject Trump

“This election is not over,” according to The Huffington Post, which is calling on the Electoral College to shun Donald Trump and pick someone else to be the nation’s next president.

The news site pointed out that the U.S. Constitution allows the Electoral College to ignore electoral-vote totals. One of the founding fathers, Alexander Hamilton, wrote that the decision to choose a president “should be made by men most capable of analyzing the qualities adapted to the station, and acting under circumstances favorable to deliberation, and to a judicious combination of all the reasons and inducements which were proper to govern their choice.”

HuffPost conceded that rejecting Trump’s victory “should not (be recommended) lightly,” but asked its readers: “Is he really fit to president? One might argue that the people have made that judgment … but have they?” The website called the president-elect “a sexual predator” who “displays all the signs of a sociopathic personality disorder.” In an op-ed, it argued that “one function of the Electoral College may have been to serve as a bulwark against a sociopath becoming president.”

The editorial noted that Trump lost the popular vote to Hillary Clinton, and that the Russian government may have helped him win the electoral vote by hacking computers at the Democratic National Committee and at Clinton’s campaign headquarters. U.S. intelligence officials warned before the election that Russians also might try to affect the outcome by hacking voting machines.

“Consider additionally that we still do not have Trump’s taxes that would show (his) financial relationships to the very country that meddled in our elections,” HuffPost wrote.
