During Recent Appearance, Melania Trump Stressed The Importance Of Living "Without Fear"

Melania Trump made political and fashion news when she addressed a crowd in Poland on Thursday.

The Daily Mail reported that the first lady joined President Trump for a commemorative event at the Warsaw Uprising Monument. During a short speech before introducing her husband, Melania proclaimed that “people should be able to live their lives without fear.” She compared the modern-day terrorist threat to Nazi Germany’s occupation of Poland during World War II. The first lady was greeted by chants of “USA! USA!”

A few hours earlier, Melania and the wife of the Polish president visited children at the country’s largest science center. The first lady gave the kids red, white and blue backpacks with stars and stripes. She frequently meets with children when traveling with the president. “My husband and I have enjoyed visiting your beautiful country,” she said, calling her time in Poland “wonderful.”

Melania has a special fondness for the country because her mother was born there. Officials announced that she and her spouse will soon pay another visit to Poland. President Trump plans to visit with Slovenian authorities, including President Borut Pahor. The leaders are expected to discuss their countries’ mutual security concerns and other issues. “As many of you know, a main focus of my husband’s presidency is safety and security of the American people,” Melania said. “I think all of us can agree people should be able to live their lives without fear, no matter what country they live in. That is my wish for all of us around the world.”

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani and former Polish President Lech Walesa attended the event. Giuliani, one of Trump’s most stalwart supporters, advised the Trump campaign and made numerous public appearances on the candidate’s behalf. Though Trump did not reward him with a cabinet position, the ex-mayor has continued to defend the president’s policies and statements.

“The fundamental question of our time is whether the West has the will to survive,” Trump said in his speech at the monument, according to The New York Times. “Do we have the confidence in our values to defend them at any cost? Do we have enough respect for our citizens to protect our borders? Do we have the desire and the courage to preserve our civilization in the face of those who would subvert and destroy it?”

The president demanded that Russia “cease its destabilizing activities in Ukraine and elsewhere and its support for hostile regimes, including Syria and Iran.” Following their events in Poland, the Trumps reboarded Air Force One to head to Germany for the G-20 economic summit.

The Daily Mail noted that Melania wore a $2,650 midi découpage dress designed by the Spanish fashion house Delpozo. The blue wool crepe gown sported pink stripes and a fitted bodice. It was the first time since becoming a presidential wife that Melania had worn Delpozo, though she has popularized clothing and accessories by numerous other top designers. She also donned blue Valentino trousers by Valentino, Manolo Blahnik black suede heels, flat-rimmed Victoria Beckham sunglasses and a black cashmere top. Anyone who admired the first lady’s handbag can get one of their own for just $75,000.
