Donald Trump: Gun Control Won’t Stop Terrorists

On Saturday, Donald Trump, a potential Republican presidential candidate, stressed the importance of gun rights.

“It is absolutely imperative that we maintain the Second Amendment in its strongest form,” the real-estate tycoon told Breitbart News. “One of the main reasons is because the good people, the upstanding people, follow laws and norms but the bad ones don’t. So, if the Second Amendment weren’t there to protect our rights and someone tampered with them, the good people would be affected but the bad people wouldn’t care. They couldn’t care less.”

Trump continued: “You look at our country, and you look at certain areas like Chicago and New York ... the areas with the most restrictive gun laws are the ones with the most crime. It’s a very interesting phenomenon. Chicago probably has the most restrictive gun laws in the United States, and they have massive amounts of shootings and killings.”

Asked what he says to those who believe increased gun control in the United States could prevent terrorist attacks like the recent incidents in Paris and Copenhagen, he replied:

“Paris has virtually the most restrictive laws that exist anywhere. … If people had guns in that room, the outcome would have been a hell of a lot better than it ended up being, where they were just slaughtered at will.”
