Don Jr. Can't Resist Making A Point While Sharing Pics Of His Kids' Halloween Costumes

The scary season is officially here, and it’s time to get cracking on putting the finishing touches on your costume if you haven’t already. As with all holidays, Halloween goes by in a flash, but it remains the premiere opportunity of the year to dress as you wish without having too many folks question your sanity. For some folks, it’s also yet another opportunity to get their partisan points across. Yes, if you were hoping that Halloween would be a time to take a breather from politics, you’re going to be disappointed.

As the Daily Mail shares, an interesting example of how pretty much everything gets tied into politics these days came forth over the weekend. Our example came courtesy of the Instagram account of Donald Trump Jr., who proudly shared some snaps of his children in their Halloween costumes. Tristan, Spencer, and Chloe, ages six, five, and three respectively, have chosen to dress up as soldiers and police officers this year. The adorable kids proudly saluted the camera as their pics were taken, and that left an opening for Don Jr. to make a point.

“Kids have their costumes ready. So cute and it’s nice to see they respect law enforcement and the military already,” he wrote. “See how easy that is?!?!”

Matters of respect for the military and members of law enforcement have been in and out of the news cycle quite often of late, and it’s run the gamut from spirited debate to hostile arguing. Whether we’re talking about protests from groups such as Black Lives Matters or NFL players refusing to stand for the anthem, you don’t have to look too far to find a hot take. Don Jr. is certainly entitled to share his thoughts, but some brows were furrowed by his choice to do so while sharing snaps of his cute kids.

Of course, that wasn’t the only activity from the Trump clan on social media over the weekend. President Donald Trump dropped one of his all-too-familiar Saturday morning tweet-storms, and he had plenty to say.

“Very little reporting about the GREAT GDP numbers announced yesterday (3.0 despite the big hurricane hits). Best consecutive Q’s in years!” read one post.

“Just read the very nice remarks by President Jimmy Carter about me and how badly I am treated by the press (Fake News). Thank you Mr. President!” read another post.

For the latter post, Trump was referring to remarks from the former POTUS, who concurred with Trump’s assessment that he receives unnecessarily harsh treatment from the press.

“I think they feel free to claim that Trump is mentally deranged and everything else without hesitation,” Carter said in reference to the press in today’s day and age.

In today’s mainstream media environment, the lines are increasingly blurred between news reporting and news commentary. Add in the fact that a large swath of the press swings pretty hard to the Left, and there’s not too much of a filter in play when the topic of Trump comes up. That shows no signs of subsiding, but we’ll keep our fingers crossed Halloween won’t be impacted too badly by unnecessary political chatter.
