'Diamond & Silk' Bash Left-Wing Trump Haters

Two popular social-media commentators are accusing liberals of “disrespecting” President Trump and “trying to destroy this country.”

“He could be living the good life, but he decided to put that on the back burner,” Rochelle “Silk” Richardson told Fox News, referring to Trump. Lynette “Diamond” Hardaway said that “if any of this was going on (when Barack Obama was president), people would’ve lost their jobs and their careers.”

The “Diamond & Silk” team is known for strongly supporting Trump. They noted that the left’s shabby treatment of the president began at January’s inauguration, which some Democratic members of Congress refused to attend. During the ceremony, anti-Trump demonstrators staged protests nearby. Diamond warned that the president’s critics will “reap what they sow” when a Democrat is in the White House, suggesting that conservatives are likely to be just as vigilant in opposing a commander-in-chief who does not reflect their views.

Any proponent of “globalism and socialism” who thinks other countries are better than the United States under Trump are welcome to leave, according to Diamond. “Railways, trailways, by ship; you can go,” she said, adding: “They want us to live in a third-world country.”

Liberals energized by the Obama presidency were stunned when his apparent successor, Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, lost last year’s election. Their surprise turned to anger when Trump showed that he intended to create an extremely conservative administration. The new president appointed regulatory agency directors who wasted no time in rolling back his predecessor’s environmental, labor, health and other initiatives. Trump also took a hard line on immigration, trying to keep a promise he made to his campaign supporters; and continued to lash out against Muslims, while defending white supremacists.

CNN pointed out that liberals have some unusual allies in their denunciation of the president. The news network noted that many Republicans are also resisting Trump’s agenda. Some of them reject the administration’s determination to destroy Obamacare, while others believe the Trump campaign colluded with Russia to affect the outcome of the 2016 election. The president’s Twitter compulsion also has drawn the ire of Republicans as well as Democrats.

With the GOP holding the majority in the Senate and the House of Representatives, it appeared that Trump would have plenty of help in advancing his legislative proposals. However, after nearly a year in office, the president can cite few accomplishments on Capitol Hill. He could not even get the Senate to repeal Obamacare, formally called the Affordable Care Act, which is widely considered his predecessor’s signature achievement. Congress approved sanctions on Russia for its interference in the election, despite Trump lobbying against the punitive action.

According to CNN, the “tribes” of Republicans who are standing in the president’s way include those on the far right, libertarians, moderates and “bipartisan advocates.” GOP Sens. Rand Paul, Ted Cruz and Mike Lee are among the libertarians, who had a number of reservations about Obamacare-repeal bills that the House passed. Cruz, the Texas lawmaker who ran against Trump for last year’s GOP presidential nomination, has been at odds with his former rival ever since.
