Despite Making Bold Moves, Carly Fiorina is Still Behind in the Polls
The only female Republican presidential hopeful so far, Carly Fiorina, is still struggling to move up in the polls. On Thursday, a Quinnipiac University poll, showed Fiorina at just 2 percent--tied with Ohio Gov. John Kasich who has not yet even announced a 2016 bid. The good news is that she at least made the top 10, which means she will be allowed in the Fox News and other debates this year. While she has been traveling around the country, she has been focusing on her business experience and record against Hillary Clinton's.
On Wednesday, she even made an appearance in South Carolina, after Clinton, through an impromptu press conference. In addition, her new website is called www.ReadyToBeatHillary.com. Yet, even a RealClearPolitics average of national polling has Fiorina in second-to-last place--with just 1.5 percent, right ahead of Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal who also, has not announced a 2016 bid. Fiorina's deputy campaign manager, Sarah Flores, says people just aren't tuned into the 2016 race yet. John White, a political science professor at Catholic University of America, emphasized the bevy of candidates by saying "You have sitting governors ... former senators. In 2012, people like Herman Cain could get attention. Fiorina isn't getting the attention at the moment and while the base thinks she's making some good points, I don't think the base is inclined to vote for her because there are better presidential candidates."
On the other hand, Fiorina has responded to media questions and at a dinner in Iowa in April, 300 people showed up to listen to her keynote address. The Quinnipiac poll showed the current GOP primary leaders are former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (who has not yet announced), retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (who also has not announced). They were tied at the front with 10 percent each.
