Democrats Accuse GOP Of ‘Voter Intimidation’ Tactics

Democratic Party officials are taking legal action to thwart Republican attempts to discourage some of Hillary Clinton’s supporters from voting, CBS News reported.

A senior adviser to GOP nominee Donald Trump acknowledged this week that the real-estate mogul’s staffers are engaged in voter-suppression efforts to reduce the number of white liberals, women and African-Americans participating in the election. The voting blocs are crucial to Clinton’s hopes of becoming president.

On Wednesday, the Democratic National Committee filed a lawsuit accusing the Republican National Committee of breaking an agreement by both parties that political operatives will not interrogate people at voting places in an attempt to stop them from casting ballots. The suit asks a judge to make the RNC suspend its “voter-intimidation program.”

According to CBS News, federal law-enforcement agents are looking into reports that some Trump supporters are promoting violent demonstrations if their candidate loses. An unnamed government source acknowledged that “it comes across as political” to accuse people of planning to incite violence. However, he pointed out that “post-election it might be too late” to prevent problems.

Trump has called on his supporters to volunteer as poll watchers to detect voter fraud that favors Clinton. He continues to claim that the election is “rigged” against him. At the last presidential debate, he declined to promise that he will accept the outcome of the Nov. 8 vote.
