Cruz Worried About Supreme Court Becoming More Liberal

The next president could appoint judges who are hostile to the First Amendment’s religious freedoms, according to Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz.

The Hill reported that the Texas senator declared on “The Wilkow Majority” on SiriusXM radio: “We are one justice away from the Supreme Court ordering 10 Commandments monuments taken down at courthouses and city halls throughout this country. We are not far away from them ordering the chisels to come out to take off the crosses and the Stars of Davids on the tombstones of our fallen soldiers.”

Cruz warned that a more liberal court might call for “veterans’ memorials to be torn down over this country,” as well as repeal gun rights and sanction abortion. “We are one justice away from the Supreme Court striking down every restriction on abortion and mandating unlimited abortion-on-demand up until the moment of birth, partial birth with taxpayer funding and no notification,” he said. “This issue is huge in the next election.”

Democratic White House hopefuls Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders also have pointed out that the next president could play a large role in determining the court’s future. The Hill pointed out that one of the liberal justices, Ruth Bader Ginsberg, is 83 years old. Swing vote Anthony Kennedy also will soon turn 80.
