Cruz Vows to Be Tougher on Immigration Than Trump or Rubio

Ted Cruz declared Monday that he, unlike fellow Republican presidential candidates Donald Trump and Marco Rubio, would have all undocumented immigrants taken from their homes and deported.

The Texas senator told Bill O’Reilly on the Fox News Channel that his top two rivals for the GOP nomination “would allow those 12 million people to become U.S. citizens,” according to Breitbart News.

Cruz, who previously rejected Trump’s plan to round up and send home everyone living illegally in the United States, indicated that his position has changed. He called for better enforcement of the nation’s immigration laws. When O’Reilly asked whether that means federal officers should “go look for them,” the candidate replied: “Bill, of course you would. That’s what ICE exists for. We have law enforcement that looks for people, who are violating the laws that apprehends them, and deports them.”

Regarding whether he favors arresting and deporting foreign nationals who overstay their visas, Cruz answered: “You better believe it.”

The senator explained how his proposals differ from those of Trump and Cruz. “Donald said once he deports them, he’d let them back in as citizens. I will not,” he said, adding that neither the billionaire businessman nor the Florida senator is offering ideas “consistent with the rule of law.”
