Cruz: Climate Change ‘Alarmists' Are ‘Flat Earthers’

Those who accept the majority view of climate scientists that the planet is getting warmer are like the “flat Earthers” of ancient times, according to Texas Sen. Ted Cruz.

“Anyone who actually points to the evidence that disproves their apocalyptical claims, they don’t engage in reasoned debate,” the Republican presidential candidate said in an interview with the Texas Tribune on Tuesday. “What do they do? They scream, ‘You’re a denier.’ They brand you a heretic.”

Cruz pointed out that Galileo faced similar criticism when he questioned the prevailing view that the Earth is flat, The Huffington Post reported. “Today, the global warming alarmists are the equivalent of the flat Earthers,” he said. “It used to be … accepted scientific wisdom the Earth is flat, and this heretic named Galileo was branded a denier.”

When the newspaper interviewer challenged him on his position, Cruz responded: “I’m a big believer that we should follow the science, and follow the evidence. Global warming alarmists don’t like to look at the actual facts and the data. The satellite data demonstrates that there has been no significant warming whatsoever for 17 years. Now, that’s a real problem for the global warming alarmists.”
