Cruz Blasts GOP Leaders For Supporting Trump

Ted Cruz is upset that some mainstream Republicans are backing Donald Trump for the party’s presidential nomination, according to The Hill.

The Texas senator, who is running second to the real-estate mogul in most national polls of GOP voters, told BuzzFeed News that “the establishment is beginning to support Donald Trump.” Cruz accused Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad of “cronyism” for urging the state’s voters to reject him because he opposes ethanol subsidies. The influential leaders of Iowa’s agricultural industry consider the issue crucial.

Branstad, during a speech at the Iowa Renewable Fuels Summit, called Cruz the “biggest opponent of renewable fuels” in the field of Republican White House hopefuls. The governor warned that it would be “a big mistake” to allow the senator to win the Iowa caucuses on Feb. 1.

“It is not a surprise that the establishment is in full panic mode,” Cruz said. “We predicted from the very beginning that the Washington cartel would fire every tool in its arsenal to prevent a conservative victory in this primary. The cartel exists to make deals and to pick winners and losers through cronyism and corporate welfare.” He alleged that Trump has “promised to make deals and to continue the cronyism and corporate welfare of Washington.”
