Coulter Says Mexico Fears ‘New Sheriff’ Donald Trump
Donald Trump received an invitation to visit Mexico because the country’s officials “know there’s going to be a new sheriff in town” after the November election, according to Ann Coulter.
The author and political commentator made the remark during a Newsmax TV interview on Wednesday when Trump met with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto and later delivered a tough anti-immigration speech in Arizona.
Coulter said it is “shocking” how foreign leaders fail to respect the United States. “I mean, Mexico gets $20 billion a year sent back by legal and illegal immigrants in remittances,” she told program host J.D. Hayworth. “It would be even more poverty-stricken and crime-ridden than it is without their biggest, best buddy to the north of them. Thank God we have someone like Trump running who doesn’t put up with that guff, and who will put America’s interests first instead of turning America into the rest of the world’s floor mat.”
The conservative firebrand argued that many nations are dependent upon the United States, so they will not become hostile if Trump becomes president and criticizes them regarding trade and other issues.
Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton ridiculed her Republican rival for meeting with Nieto after slamming Mexico throughout his campaign. She said Trump cannot “build a coalition by insulting our friends or acting like a loose cannon,” and attempt “to make up for a year of insult and insinuations by dropping in on our neighbors for a few hours and then flying home again.” The former secretary of state added: “That’s not how it works.”
