Conway: 'I Don't Have Any Evidence' Regarding Wiretapping Claims

President Donald Trump's administration has been blasted over explosive allegations that former President Barack Obama's administration wiretapped Trump Tower during the election. White House counselor Kellyanne Conway says she has no evidence of wiretapping but is interested to see the result of the investigation by the House Intelligence Committee.

Journalist Mike Kelly of 'The Record' asked Conway in an interview last week whether she believed that the former administration wiretapped Trump Tower. Conway dodged the question and instead said the matter was being investigated.

“What I can say is there are many ways to surveil each other. You can surveil someone through their phones, certainly through their television sets — any number of ways,” she explained. “We know this is a fact of modern life.”

George Stephanopoulous of ABC's 'Good Morning America' asked Conway no Monday to present evidence supporting her claims that the Obama administration was spying on Trump Tower, and Conway said she never claimed that. "I answered him about surveilling generally," she explained.

The call for evidence has been coming from every direction: the press, the Democratic party, and even some Republican politicians. Senator John McCain has been demanding that President Trump either present evidence of wiretapping or retract his allegations.

"The answer is, I don't have any evidence, and I'm very happy that the House Intelligence Committee is investigating," Conway said to Stephanopoulous.

Conway reiterated her stance on CNN’s 'New Day' with anchor Chris Cuomo. "I'm not Inspector Gadget," Conway repeated her position. "I don't believe people are using the microwave to spy on the Trump campaign. I have said many, many times throughout the week that the president is pleased that the House and Senate Intelligence committees have agreed with him that this should be part of the investigation that already exists about Russia and the campaign, an investigation that apparently has gone nowhere so far."
