Conservative Candidate: Trump ‘Is Trying To Tear This Country Apart’

Voters should reject Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump because he is “dividing us, not uniting us,” according to independent White House hopeful Evan McMullin.

The Hill reported that the conservative candidate declared Thursday on MSNBC that Trump “is trying to tear this party — or this country, forget about the party — he’s trying to tear the country apart to his own political advantage.” McMullin stressed that “we need to unify as a country.”

He ridiculed Trump’s recent decision to hire Stephen Bannon, who previously ran the right-wing Breitbart News website, as his campaign’s chief executive officer. “This is somebody who has a history of promoting racial and anti-Semitic rhetoric in our country and dividing us, not uniting us,” McMullin said. “Donald Trump is going to lose because he is a weak man and a weak candidate.”

The longshot, little-known candidate alleged that Trump’s frequent praise of the Russian president proves he is “aligned with Vladimir Putin.” McMullin, whose experience includes 11 years as a CIA operative, warned that the billionaire businessman would “lead us to be more at risk” of terrorist attacks.

McMullin’s supporters have gathered enough signatures to get his name on the general-election ballots in Colorado and Utah. Minnesota voters also will be able to choose the candidate, due to an independent political party in the state having endorsed him. McMullin said he hopes to qualify for the ballots in Iowa, Virginia, Tennessee, Louisiana and other states.
