That Clinton Email Scandal Isn't Going Away Just Yet - May Even Get Worse

Some mistakes can haunt you for the rest of your life. Just ask Hillary Clinton. That whole email thing? It’s not going away just because she was on the wrong end of one of the most shocking upsets in modern political history. The State Department has just taken an incredibly interesting step in regards to the email scandal, and it points to the fact that this black mark may finally result in some kind of resolution.

As Fox News shares, the State Department has decided to open a formal inquiry into whether the former Secretary of State or her aides may have mishandled classified information. Clinton and her aides still have security clearance at the moment, but that may change depending on what turns up.

“The department’s investigation aims to determine whether Clinton and her closest aides violated government protocols by using her private server to receive, hold and transmit classified and top-secret government documents,” Fox News reports. “The department declined to say when its inquiry began, but it follows the conclusion of the FBI’s probe into the matter, which did not result in any actions being taken against Clinton or any of her aides.”

Clinton’s spokesperson, Nick Merrill, insists that this step is much ado about nothing.

“Nothing's been more thoroughly dissected. It's over,” he said. “Case closed. Literally.”

Other observers aren’t so sure, including Chris Farrell of government watchdog Judicial Watch.

“Their conduct has cost them that privileged position of special trust and confidence,” he said.

The FBI decided that no charges were warranted, but that doesn’t mean that they didn’t find anything that gave the organization some serious pause.

“During the FBI’s investigation of Clinton’s use of top-secret and classified information on her private server, Comey said there were seven email chains on Clinton’s computer that were classified at the 'Top Secret/Special Access Program level',” Fox News continued. “Another 2,000 emails on her private server were found to have contained information deemed classified now, though not marked classified when sent. In addition, the server also contained 22 top-secret emails deemed too damaging to national security to be released.”

Farrell is hoping that this time something will actually be done about it.

“This flagrant double standard for the gang that exposed Top Secret Codeword material to the Russians, Chinese and others is both offensive and deeply corrosive to the intelligence community,” he continued. “There is no better evidence that when it comes to Hillary Clinton and her coterie - laws are for the little people.”

We’ll have to wait and see how this plays out, but it’s pretty interesting to see this rehashed nonetheless. Has something new popped up that further piqued the State Department’s interest? Will something finally come of this beyond harsh words and a stern tsk-tsk? Should Clinton and her staffers be really nervous right about now?

Hopefully, we’ll get some answers to all of the above, as it’s well past time to finally close the book on the never-ending Clinton email saga once and for all.
