Clinton Calls Benghazi Committee ‘Partisan’

Hillary Clinton, during the Democratic presidential debate Tuesday night, dismissed the House investigation of Benghazi as a political exercise.

She called Rep. Trey Gowdy’s committee a “partisan vehicle” that is “basically an arm” of the Republican National Committee, according to The Hill. The candidate pointed out that GOP Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy of California recently credited the panel’s probe for helping reduce her lead in the polls. She has agreed to testify before the committee once again later this month.

Debate moderator Anderson Cooper of CNN asked Clinton about her controversial use of a private email server while she was President Obama’s first secretary of state. “I’ve taken responsibility for it,” she replied. “I did say it was a mistake.”

When Cooper noted that Obama this week called the email issue “legitimate,” Clinton responded: “I never said it wasn’t legitimate. I have said that I have answered all the questions.” She added: “I’m still standing.”

The Hill reported that Clinton’s top rival for the nomination, Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont, agreed that the scandal has been overblown. “The American people are sick and tired of hearing about your damn emails,” declared, eliciting loud cheers from the audience. Clinton smiled, thanked Sanders and shook his hand.
