Clinton Blames Comey, FBI And Russia For Campaign Collapse And Presidential Loss

According to The Hill, the former Democratic presidential nominee slammed FBI Director James Comey for informing Congress just 11 days before the election that agents had resumed their investigation of Clinton’s emails. Though the probe uncovered no incriminating information, it helped keep the controversy alive. Clinton claimed that “if the election had been on Oct. 27, I would be your president.”

She made the comments at a meeting of the Women for Women organization in New York City. “It wasn’t a perfect campaign — there is no such thing — but I was on the way to winning until a combination of Jim Comey’s letter on Oct. 28 and Russian WikiLeaks raised doubts in the minds of people who were inclined to vote for me and got scared off,” Clinton told CNN reporter Christiane Amanpour.

She was referring to Russia’s alleged hacking of Democratic Party officials’ emails, which WikiLeaks made public. U.S. intelligence agencies allege that Russian leader Vladimir Putin ordered the cyber attacks as part of his attempt to influence the election in favor of Donald Trump. A number of Trump operatives, from his campaign to his administrative staff, had contacts with Russian officials during the 2016 White House race. The FBI, as well as a pair of congressional committees, are investigating whether the Republican candidate’s campaign conspired with Russian leader Vladimir Putin to influence the outcome of the election.

When Amanpour asked whether misogyny was a factor in the race, Clinton replied: “Yes, I do think it played a role. I think other things did, as well. Every day that goes by, we find out more about the unprecedented inference, including from a foreign power whose leader is not a member of my fan club. It is real; it is very much a part of the landscape, politically and socially and economically.” Regarding the Trump campaign’s possible collusion with Putin, Clinton pointed out that “If you chart my opponent and his campaign’s statements, they quite coordinated with the goals that that leader.”
