Cheney Won’t Endorse Trump, But Would Vote For Him

If Donald Trump succeeds in capturing the Republican presidential nomination next year, he will have Dick Cheney’s support, Newsmax reported.

The former vice president announced during a television interview on Tuesday that while he is not endorsing the billionaire businessman, he will remain loyal to his party by voting for whichever candidate is nominated.

“I’ve been surprised that he’s done as well as he has,” Cheney told CNN host Jamie Gangel on the “New Day” show. “I think most of us have on the Republican side.” He declined to discuss the attributes of any of the 17 GOP presidential contenders. “I don’t want to be in the business of rating candidates at this point or grading them,” he said.

Cheney and his daughter Liz appeared on the program primarily to promote the book they recently published, “Exceptional: Why the World Needs a Powerful America.” They argue that the concept of “American exceptionalism” is still valid in the 21st century.

In the interview, shown on CNN’s “Anderson Cooper 360,” Cheney stressed that he has always voted for the Republican nominee, and that will not change with Trump. He said he does not personally know the real-estate mogul.

Liz Cheney told Gangel that Trump is succeeding on the campaign trail because he is reaching out to “frustrated American voters” who oppose President Obama.
