Cheney Rips Obama for Withdrawing Troops From Iraq

Former Vice President Dick Cheney is not going to make the same mistake as Jeb Bush by commenting on whether the United States should have invaded Iraq in 2003.

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Cheney argued that voters should instead focus on President Obama’s decision to leave only 3,000 troops in Iraq.

“The relevant question first ought to be directed to Obama, and it’s: ‘Knowing what you know now, would you have abandoned Iraq and pulled the troops out three years ago?’” Cheney said.

“As we got further from 9/11, there was a tendency for a lot of people to say, ‘Let somebody else do it, we’ve done our share,’” he told the Journal. “Well, that makes no sense at all, if 19 guys with airline tickets and box cutters can take down the World Trade Center and Pentagon.”

Cheney called on the Obama’s successor in the White House to increase the number of ground troops in Iraq, provide weapons to the Kurds to help them fight ISIS, and form alliances with Sunni Arab nations that oppose the nuclear agreement with Iran.

Politico noted that Cheney has not announced which of the Republican presidential candidates he supports.
