Chelsea Clinton Slams Democratic Lawmaker’s Crude ‘Joke’ About Kellyanne Conway

A photo of White House counselor Kellyanne Conway kneeling on the couch in the oval office immediately became meme gold. Memes began to spread like wildfire. In one, Ms. Conway is playing the old children's game in which the floor is hot lava; in another, she's using her phone to play Pokemon Go. A lot of people had fun with the image, until one Democratic representative's joke took a rude turn. Even Chelsea Clinton came to Conway's defense.

Conway claims she was in the bizarre position because she was asked to take a photo of the president and some 60 presidents of historically black universities from a certain angle. She climbed up on the couch, her feet tucked beneath her, to angle herself properly, she said.

Conway's position on the couch has been dubbed 'couchgate.' Some people were offended that Conway put her feet up on the Oval Office sofa, while others spread around new comical memes. But Rep. Cedric Richmond (D-La.) made an awfully suggestive comment that seemed uncalled for.

“I really just want to know what was going on there, because, you know, I won’t tell anybody,” Richmond said, according to the Times-Picayune. “You can just explain to me that circumstance — because she really looked kind of familiar in that position there ... and I don’t want you to refer back to the 1990s.”

The throwback to the Monica Lewinski scandal had some people in an uproar. Even Chelsea Clinton jumped in to defend Conway.

"Despicable. I hope @KellyannePolls receives the apology she deserves-certainly never thought I'd write that & I mean every word," wrote Clinton.

Instead of apologizing, Richmond feigned innocence and said his comment was not at all sexually suggestive. "Where I grew up saying that someone is looking or acting ‘familiar’ simply means that they are behaving too comfortably,” he explained in a statement.

If that's true, then it makes you wonder what a Monica Lewinski reference means where he grew up.
