Carson Says Jews Agree With His Holocaust Remark

Ben Carson claimed Sunday that Jews agree with his recent comment that the Holocaust may not have happened if the German populace had been allowed to have guns, Newsmax reported.

The Republican presidential contender told host Chuck Todd on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that members of the Jewish community have called his remark “exactly right.” He said they “generally agreed” with him.

"Look at the whole content in which I have said that and which I have written about that,” Carson explained. “I wrote about societies, before tyranny as able to take root, that the tyrants tried to rid the people of the mechanism to defend themselves. So it was said in that context.”

The candidate ripped news reporters for their coverage of his statement, alleging they “try to make this into a big, horrible thing.” He accused his opponents of interpreting the comment as an “anti-Jewish thing, which is foolishness.”

“If I say something about something that we don’t want to become and we never even want to get close to it, then I’m comparing it and I’m saying we’re there,” Carson told Todd. “That’s what they do. And, of course, for people who aren’t really thinking deeply, you know, that resonates. But, you know, the fortunate thing is a lot of people really do think for themselves.”
