Carson Promises to Protect Gun Rights

Ben Carson vowed Wednesday that if he is elected president, he will staunchly defend the Second Amendment.

The Republican candidate told Newsmax TV that President Obama favors the confiscation of firearms. “He probably would like to do that, but we’re not going to let that happen,” he said. “The Second Amendment is so crucial … It was Daniel Webster who said America would never experience tyranny because the people are armed.”

Newsmax noted that Carson’s position on the issue sharply contrasts with Hillary Clinton’s advocacy of increased gun control. She has pledged to use presidential executive orders to impose further restrictions.

However, Carson predicted that the former secretary of state will not be the next president. “I’ll say it again: I really don’t think Hillary is going to be the nominee, because even the Democrats are smart enough to realize that would be a disaster for them,” he told Newsmax TV’s Steve Malzberg. “I believe Biden will get in. If they’re logical in any sense, that would probably be what they would do.”

The retired neurosurgeon, who trails only Donald Trump in most national polls of Republican voters, suggested it is not too late for the vice president to enter the race. “It would be under normal circumstances, but under these circumstances he’ll be welcomed with open arms,” Carson said, referring to the recent death of Biden’s son.
