Carson Jokes That His Mom Might Have Shot 'Dishonest' Reporters

Ben Carson, in a tongue-in-cheek remark on the Brown and Scoop podcast Wednesday, said the news media are lucky his mother did not gun them down because of their coverage of the Republican presidential contest.

“She probably would have taken a gun and gone out and shot some of the dishonest reporters … because my mother is really a fighter,” the former GOP candidate said. The Hill reported that Carson’s mom, Sonya, suffers from Alzheimer’s disease.

On a more serious note, the retired pediatric brain surgeon blasted the “dishonest media,” accusing reporters of being biased against him. Carson, who briefly led the GOP race at one point, ended his White House bid in March. The candidate came under fire for allegedly making false claims in his autobiography, “Gifted Hands.” His critics also questioned his understanding of world affairs.

Last November, Carson claimed media scrutiny of his campaign was “not particularly getting under my skin,” even acknowledging that the coverage was “helping” him. However, he added: “I simply cannot sit still and watch unfairness. I am always going to call that out when I see it.”

Despite his clashes with Donald Trump in debates and on the campaign trail, Carson has endorsed the presumptive Republican nominee.
