Carson Blasts Grand Jury For Defending Planned Parenthood

Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson is criticizing a Texas grand jury for filing charges against a pair of anti-abortion activists, rather than Planned Parenthood.

Breitbart News reported that the retired pediatric brain surgeon said he was “saddened” and “shocked” by the decision, which the Harris County district attorney’s office announced this week. The grand jury indicted two people who secretly recorded videos of Planned Parenthood officials, but declined to charge the organization with any wrongdoing. Investigators determined that Planned Parenthood had been falsely accused of illegally selling body parts from aborted fetuses.

Carson, who supports a federal ban on abortions, has frequently criticized the family-planning group. He recently called on Congress to eliminate federal funding for the organization and “prosecute them for crimes against the unborn.”

The candidate’s communications director, A. Larry Ross, echoed those sentiments in a written statement. “Dr. Carson is saddened by (the) decision to absolve Planned Parenthood from any misconduct. He is equally shocked that they instead decided to indict the individuals that exposed Planned Parenthood’s heinous and illegal activities. As president, he will use the full weight of his office to not only cut off all federal funding for this organization, but also prosecute them for crimes against the unborn,” Ross wrote.
