California Democratic Convention Staff Cut Off Maxine Waters' Mic - She Keeps Talking

Rep. Maxine Waters claims she is putting her “career on the line” by calling for impeachment proceedings against President Trump, the Independent Journal Review reported.

The news site noted that the California Democrat has been getting a lot of news coverage for her outspoken criticism of the president. She has frequently slammed Trump for a variety of reasons, ranging from his personal behavior to his policy proposals. The president’s fans have noticed. Some of them held a protest outside the congresswoman’s home, demanding her removal from office.

On Saturday, Waters spoke to the African-American Caucus at the California Democratic Convention. Someone cut off the microphone during her remarks, according to the Washington Free Beacon. The newspaper reported that a convention staffer approached the lawmaker while she was talking about an Oval Office meeting on May 10, when Trump gave Russian government officials classified intelligence information. “They try to shut me up all the time,” Waters said, referring to the staffer. The congresswoman’s supporters cheered and encouraged her to “keep going.” Waters continued her speech without the microphone. She urged her fellow Democrats to fight the president’s agenda, and led a chant of “Impeach 45.” (Trump is the nation’s 45th commander-in-chief.)

The Washington Post reported that on Friday, Waters took her campaign for Trump’s impeachment to a suburban church in Maryland. During a prayer breakfast, she ranted about the president for a full half-hour. “I want you to know that I think African-Americans have the responsibility to lead in this struggle,” the congresswoman said. “We fought to make this democracy better. We’re not giving it over to him.”

Waters got a standing ovation after being introduced at another Maryland event. When asked whether other members of the Black Congressional Caucus supported impeachment proceedings, the lawmaker replied: “We have not come together as a caucus yet.” She called on her audience to get organized and use social media to influence their representatives on Capitol Hill.

According to Politifact, Waters declared April 18 on Twitter: “The president is a liar, his actions are contemptible, & I’m going to fight everyday until he’s impeached.” The same day, the congresswoman was referring to the Trump campaign’s alleged collusion with Russia to interfere in last year’s election when she told MSNBC: “We need the information. We need to connect the dots. We need the facts in order to do the impeachment. And I'm going to work every day to try and help get those facts and to reveal them to the republic, to our public until, of course, impeachment is taking place.”
