Bush Urges Candidates to Be Hopeful, Not Hateful

Jeb Bush, in an apparent reference to Donald Trump, said the Republican Party cannot win next year’s presidential election by “appealing to people's basic fears and angst.”

Newsmax reported that the former Florida governor, while campaigning in Nevada, advocated “campaigning with your arms wide open” and “joy in your heart.”

“I know how to win,” he said. “You win by giving (voters) a sense that their future can be brighter. You win by respecting everybody. Even if they don't agree with you, you respect them and you try to persuade them that our ideals, our philosophy, our ideology is the winning one for the majority of Americans.”

At another campaign stop this week in Nevada, Bush blasted President Obama and Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton for their positions on Middle East issues. He argued that the withdrawal of most U.S. troops from Iraq in 2011 allowed ISIS to rise to power.

Bush told reporters his criticisms of the Democrats “are not personal attacks; they are based on flawed policy.”

He explained: “I'm not attacking (Clinton). I'm just pointing out that the foreign policy that they have implemented was one that created a more dangerous world. ... I think it's fair to be critical of a foreign policy that has pulled us back where we are no longer reliable allies.”
