Bill Clinton: Trump Was Elected By ‘Angry White Men’

The FBI’s email investigation and Donald Trump’s appeal to “angry white men” were major factors in Hillary Clinton’s election defeat, Bill Clinton said in an interview that The Record-Review published on Monday.

According to the New York Daily News, the former president told the weekly New York newspaper that FBI Director James Comey “lost her the election” by reopening the agency’s probe of emails related to the former secretary of state less than two weeks before Election Day. While the investigation uncovered no evidence of wrongdoing, it reinforced many voters’ perception that Hillary Clinton is corrupt.

Bill Clinton said Trump “doesn’t know much,” but gave the president-elect credit for understanding “how to get angry white men to vote for him.” Trump overwhelmingly won the Anglo male vote, while losing to Clinton among women and racial minorities.

The Russian government’s alleged hacking of emails from the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton’s campaign manager also affected the White House race, according to Bill Clinton. “You would need to have a single-digit IQ not to recognize what was going on,” he said, when asked about allegations by the CIA and FBI that Russian leader Vladimir Putin ordered hackers to attack Democratic officials’ computers.
